Christchurch is one giant suburb- neatly trimmed a Christchurch is one giant suburb- neatly trimmed and picket-fenced with broad sidewalks, public parks and well-behaved dogs. 

Even their patchwork fields are a study in symmetry.

Mexicano’s in downtown Christchurch has a very d Mexicano’s in downtown Christchurch has a very dark Day of the Dead theme going for its interiors. 

But the Mexican (food, not bartender) is delish. The guac is something out of this world. And the churros? Oh man, the churros!

The second I stepped in, for some reason I knew I just had to have a Bloody Mary, so the super-nice staff made me one even though it wasn’t listed on the menu.

For dinner, I had fire grilled garlic mushrooms, queso fresco, onions, black beans, chipotle and almonds.

And for dessert, there was Popcorn Sundae with organic banana and salted caramel ice- cream, Mexican chocolate sauce and caramel popcorn (that wispy green thingee is cotton candy- no kidding!)

These beautifully restored trams were a part of ci These beautifully restored trams were a part of city life from the late 1800s to 1954 and have returned to the streets of Christchurch.

Horse-drawn and electric trams ran services to many parts of the city and suburbs- and now they ferry tourists- chugging along blissfully.
